Employee Spotlight: Nikki Greer

Name: Nikki Greer

Position:  Customer Service Representative

Location: 5004 122nd St Suite 100 Lubbock, TX 79424

Job Description:

I process payrolls, assist clients with questions, train new employees and clients, and audit our billing processes to ensure the programming continues to run smoothly.

What is your personal background?

I moved to Lubbock with my family in 2007. I was homeschooled and graduated from high school in 2013. I received my bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Law and Government in 2017 from Lubbock Christian University.

What was your first job?

I spent the summer of 2013 working at my grandmother’s clothing store in Eastland, Texas, selling clothes and western wear. Later that summer, I moved back to Lubbock and worked at Lubbock Christian University in the Business Department answering phone calls and emails, doing office inventory, and grading papers.

How did you get your start at Fastpay?

I found a job posting on Indeed and decided that even though I hadn’t had any experience in payroll previously, I would at least interview and meet some new people. I was impressed with their professionalism and positive attitude towards learning, so I accepted their offer and have thoroughly enjoyed the experiences and environment they offer.

What do you most enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy the new challenges that arise daily and recurring opportunities to learn and problem solve.

What is the most challenging part of your work?

The most challenging part of working with payroll is understanding the inherent wariness that clients may have with you merely because you are handling their money, and overcoming that by patiently building a bridge of trust. Earning that person’s confidence is the most satisfying part of the job.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I want to learn as many languages as possible in my lifetime. I already speak English and Spanish and am working on French.

If you had to eat only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I could happily live off of soup and bread for the rest of my life.

Who do you admire and how have they influenced you and your work?

All of my professors at LCU were incredible, but specifically Dr. Owen. His classes were the most difficult classes I have ever taken, but he taught me that nothing should ever be done halfway and everyone has a story that merits telling.

Fill in the blank: I can’t leave the home without _____________.

My keys.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?

My grandmother’s house is my favorite place on earth. The stars are brighter, the air is cleaner, and everything is greener. It’s a beautiful area with a fascinating history.

Do you have a hidden talent?

I have a fun fact, or a bad pun, for every occasion. I can also technically solve a Rubix cube in under 30 minutes- I just have to take it apart and put it back together.

In five words (or less) what advice would you give someone in your profession?

Always think outside the box.

What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?

Depending on the amount, I’d likely hire an accountant first.

How many unread emails do you have in your inbox right now?

I do not have any unread emails. It is a priority at Fastpay to respond to our clients’ needs as quickly as possible.

List three things on your bucket list.

I don’t have much of a bucket list, more of a to-do list. I have some things I need to do before I pass on, but I already have everything I could ever need in my family and friends. What more could I ask?

If you had $10,000 to donate to any charity, who would you choose? Why?

My mom always told me there’s just some things you don’t talk about in polite company unless you have to- mainly money, politics, and football.
